There aren't too many obvious advantages of being temporarily struck down with a flu. But there are some.

1.  Falling heavily in love with an Australian TV Drama that ended eleven years ago (thanks SeaChange).

I'm hooked. Why aren't there more shows like this? I've only watched the first season and already the stories have touched on euthanasia, environmental degradation, effects of tourism on small towns, teenage suicide, and a whole gamut of relationship challenges while somehow managing to feel feasibly 'real', funny, and not even slightly melodramatic or soapy. Maybe it's just that the characters are so likeable and flawed, or maybe it's just that it's such a refreshing thing to watch because it's not slick, or high-budget, or from Hollywood. Whatever it is, I love it.

(I have to admit I've also enjoyed the neon singlets with weird 90's surf branding and chunky sandals that all the kids in the show have- it makes me think of what my brother and I used to wear when we were about five or six.)

2. Getting to listen to the streamed debut album of Seeker Lover Keeper.

It's the feature this week on Triple J and it's perfect. (I am biased though, as I am unashamedly in love with anything Holly Throsby creates/co-creates.) You can hear it here for the next week or so.

3. Having even more time to dip into the Radio National archives.

Great interview with Greens Senator Sarah Hanson Young, speaking out on the treatment of asylum seekers under Australia's current immigration policy, as well as one with Tim Flannery on Australia's Climate Commission's first major report, The Critical Decade. It's nice when a media site actually provides you with information rather than sensation.

4. Having some extra-appreciation for being able to go outside once you start to feel a bit better.

..Especially when storm clouds are swirling and there's that silent hush over everything before the rain starts falling. Beautiful.

I was listening to Seeker, Lover, Keeper as well! Loved their commentary on all the songs, not sure if you heard it, but they're all so creative and insanely talented.
