all the world is green

"The world often sees environmentalism or being green as being less bad. It's really not about being less bad, it's about being better, doing more good. So I think that's the difference. When all of a sudden you realise that we have to become a creative force, not just a less destructive force. That's a big revelation."

[a quote from William McDonough in the Green Book]

Sometimes (actually a lot of the time) I feel like I need to make some pretty radical changes to the way I live if I really care at all about the Earth. Often though, these thoughts are quickly chased out by the feeling that it's just too hard, that so much damage has been done it's futile to even try. And I hate that those initial thoughts, which could be triggers for positive change, tend to get swallowed up by the sheer size of the problem.

That's why I like this little excerpt about green living so much. And I think that this switch in perspective from reducing negative effects, to an outlook that aspires to being creatively good can be applied to almost anything, not just the way we engage with our environment.
